Why do we do anything? A teacher in high school mentioned the 3 G's, God, Glory and Gold. At the time, he was talking about the American colonization, but I think for the most part, it still holds up today. I always have this thought in the back of my mind - whenever people say they want to do anything, I think why? Nowadays, the answer is usually "Glory". It is something in their bucket list or something they just want to do at least one and say they did it.
Then, there are when I think why people say they'll do something, but end up bailing - girls (or guys). The 4th "G". Damn our hormones. I have even found myself in this situation way too many times; I once told a friend that I have no real interest in reading the Harry Potter series, unless it is to my kid (future talk) or a girl asked me. I even remember running across campus back in school, late at night and before a mid-term, because a girl wanted to "hang-out". I barely passed that class. Too many times in my life I've held off on doing anything because I wanted a girl to be there with me to experience it - too many times. Too many times, I've waited.
Well, I got tired of waiting and being nice, so I started being a bit more greedy. If I wanted to do something, I do my best to do it as soon as possible. As much as I would enjoy doing these things with others, I just can't wait around anymore.
It is summer in the Pacific Northwest, we have a limited time of this great weather, now is the time to do anything and everything. As motto from my old work, "Do it Now!" - I will do it now.
